Access bank shuts down branch in Lagos after a customer tested positive for coronavirus

The management of Access Bank has shut down one of its facilities in Lagos after a customer tested positive for coronavirus.  In a statement shared on its Instagram page, it was gathered that a bank customer who tested positive for coronavirus visited a branch of the bank in Ligali Ayorinde on Monday March 16. He was symptom-free at the time of the visit and currently being monitored at the isolation center in Yaba. 

Niger State declares lockdown over coronavirus

The Niger State Government has declared a total lockdown in the state as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.  Governor Abubakar Sani Bello who made the announcement in a state-wide broadcast on Monday March 23, declared restriction of movement from 8am to 8pm. He also directed the closure of all Almajiri schools in the state with immediate effect from today, Monday 23.

Bauchi state government confirms state governor, Bala Mohammed's self-isolation over Coronavirus

The Bauchi state government have released a statement confirming that the state governor, Bala Mohammed and his aides have gone into self-isolation after he came in contact with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's son who recently tested positive to Coronavirus. The statement revealed that the governor and Atiku's son met on an Aero Contractor flight. Read the statement below.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in the 2019 General Elections, Atiku Abubakar, has announced that his son tested positive to coronavirus. He made his known via his Twitter handle on Sunday.   “My son has tested positive to coronavirus,” he tweeted.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has gone into quarantine after a doctor who administered a vaccine to her tested positive for Covid-19. Merkel’s spokesman said she was informed about the doctor’s test shortly after holding a news conference on Sunday announcing new measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Senate approves HND as minimum qualification for president and state governors

The Nigerian Senate has approved Higher National Diploma (HND) as the minimum qualification for citizens seeking to be president or governors.  The bill which proposed the certificate as the minimum qualification for president and state governors, and Ordinary National Diploma (OND) as the minimum qualification for those contesting for state and federal legislative seats, passed its second reading on Thursday March 12.  President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan sent the bill which is sponsored by Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau) to the Committee on Constitution Review after lawmakers passed the proposed amendment for second reading. It is expected the bill will alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide for the amendment of Sections 65 (2) (a), 131 (d), Section 106 (c) and Section 177 (d) on minimum educational qualification for those seeking election as state or federal lawmakers, as well as governors, president and their deputies.
